LEDE Control room design... HELP!!!

Post by pedrotrotz »

I am building a new control room big enough to fit a LEDE design (I hope). Its dimensions exceed from 6 x 5 x 4 meters. I have yet to determine the insulation width so no exact measures yet.

I know some basic raytracing can help me to set a RFZ but I don't remember where a saw an explanation for this...

Can you help me with some floor/elevation plans as a guide to do my own design? What are the factors to take into account when designing the shape of a control room?

Also, I have no idea about how to build the soffit shell for the monitors... but that's another story :)

Greetings!

You came to the rigth place to ask these questions. Better yet, most of them have been asked already! Type in the main word of each question into the search engine and you'll get all you need to know.

'RFZ', 'LEDE', 'soffit' (go to the Speakers forum for that one - Barefoot has a design in one of the sticky-d topics) and 'layout' should get you plenty of results. I hope you don't take this re-direct as looking down on you (some people get offended when you say "use the search!") but there's so much stuff out there, and I'm at work now so I don't have time to re-type it all ;)

BTW I'm not sure but I think most of the people here will recommend a different design theory than LEDE. It works, but there's better ideas out there. Having a balanced room overall is probably going to serve you better.

Good hunting!

Thanks! I do no feel offended.... Just tried the search function, but it seems a bit difficult to find what one os looking for because the amount of info available is HUGE! :D

Thanks. I will post more specific questions as the project advances...

Ok... I have seen those horrendous pictures of very small rooms crampled with diffusers at Everest's book. Something inside me told me that could not be right...

Ok... If you don't mind me abusing from your courtesy, I would like to fire up some yes/no questions...

1) Soffit monitors are a good idea?

2) Reflective (wood) front wall? (I have a small console)

3) Splayed inner shell to create RFZ?

4) A little difussion at the back (3 meters from listening position)?

5) Resonant absorbers?

6) Or hanging panels (ceiling is 4 meters high)?

7) Corner broadband basstraps?

Thanks in advance. I really appreciate your feedback. I have read many books (Newell, Everest, etc... ) but I'm in need for some qualified chat

1) Soffit monitors are a good idea?

Yes.I reckon it works well.

2) Reflective (wood) front wall? (I have a small console)

Yes but below speakers I prefer to have dead so rear console reflections don't come back at you.

3) Splayed inner shell to create RFZ?

Yes.

4) A little difussion at the back (3 meters from listening position)?

Provided it is greater than 3 m.

5) Resonant absorbers?

Yes - for low-mid absorption. 150hz - 500hz.

6) Or hanging panels (ceiling is 4 meters high)?

As well for below 150hz.

7) Corner broadband basstraps?

Yes - or slots depending on room size.

cheers
