I'm back with a lay out

Post by ozzie »

Hi it's me Ozzie and I'm back with some pictures and a layout this time. I posted a few question's under " Live room and Drum room Questions " before I did my layout but didn't get to many answers. I guess the question's were kind of dumb and I should of already have known all that stuff by now I guess. Here are some pictures of the studio I'm trying to build and trying to incorporate in to my design. I will stop here and then reply back with the layout and the information so you can help out?

Thank You
Ozzie

P.S.
If I'm breaking any of the rules I'm sorry I'm still new to the forum.

The layout

Post by ozzie »

Ok layout #1 is the the way my building is right now. The 11'.8" x 15'.6" office will remain an office/waiting/graphics and webdesign room. The 11'.5" x 11'.10" room is what I'm working in right now as the main studio but will turn into studio B/ Post Production/ Midi room. Now main concern is the 13' x 27' room and the 12' x 17' room. I want to maximize all the space I can and put it to good use. I want to be able to record bands, instruments and run a internet radio station with the extra two rooms( 13' x 27' and 12' x 17' ).

Layout # 2

I put the pictures of my studio I wanted to build into my design. I will have a 12' x 12' control room and a 8'x 8' or 8' x 10 vocal/iso/interview room to record vocals and conduct interviews for my studio and internet radio station.

The 12' x 17' room will be my live room/ tracking room, I'm not sure what you call it.

Now if all the other stuff is alright I will have a 10' x 8' or 10'x 10' or even a 10' x 12' room, that I don't know what to do with? What can I do with this extra space? If you wondering how I got those dimensions I will explain on the next line.

Ok now, if you look at layout #2 you will see some red lines and some blue boxes, The blue boxes are of course da windows and the red lines between the extra room and the vocal/iso/interview room is where I was thinking of placing a wall and door to make a 10' x 12 ' room or I could place a wall and door there to make a lillte walk way to the control room but all that depends on what I do with the room.

Now I know the rooms are not to be the same dimensions and the walls are not to be parrallel so can ya help me out with my design? I know it need some tweaking.

Thank You
Ozzie

P.S.
My drawing is off scale, I think that's what ya call it?

The problems I see are access to rooms - i.e you have to walk through the control room to get to the studio and even worse studio B.

I'd tend to look at building a passageway through the studio B room and reduce it by 3 feet so you have direct access to the live room and the Bathroom!! - for gear loadins, and access to control room B. Then I'd use 12 x 17 of the big room for the control room with a 10 x 12 booth between it and the live room.

Redesign

Post by ozzie »

Hi John, it's me Ozzie just hitting you back with another design. I hear what your saying but cuting a extra 3' off studio B will not do it for me. Studio B is 11'.5" X 11.10" and if I cut off 3 extra feet, that would leave me with 11'.5" x 8'.10" room, now take 1 foot away from the wall for my desk and then add a extra 4 feet for my desk and that leaves me with 3'.10" of walking space and I haven't even added my chair or a sofa or some kind of seating for that room yet.

Now I know a control room should be a least 16 feet or more in length but I really love the designs and pictures I posted. I would like for some how to fit that into my layout. I see it like this John building a studio on a small budget is like a marriage -you have to compromise and sacrifice

Sacrifice: I am willing to sacrifice a longer control room and people walk through the control room with their gear to get to the live room and restroom.

Compromise: I am willing to do all that to get the pictures I posted into my layout.

I redesign my layout as you can see, the first thing I did is close off the door from studo A to studio B. I then put a door from the office going into studio B. I also put a door from the office going into the 10' x 12' room and close it off from studio A with a wall. The only problems I see is getting to the live room to load and unload the gear and the rest room through the control room of studio A but I think I can fix one of those problems as far as the band loading & unloading their gear by placing a door in the side of the live room. I live right behind my studio so there will be no problems as fas as that goes. Plus, for the price I'm charging I think no one would care.

Thank You
Ozzie

P.S.
John I will keep an open mind and I'll try to redesign my studio with my pictures and what you suggested with out the sacrifices but until then what do you think about this layout?
