Live room and Drum room questions?

Post by ozzie »

Hi my name is Ozzie and I was wondering if ya can help me out with a few question before I start drawing my layouts?

1. Do you think a 12 x 16 x ? ( w/l/h ) room is big a nuff to make into a live room with a drummer in it?

2. If not can I make a live room and a drum room a few feet a part, lets say 12 or 16 feet away with some kind of communication like a window or a camera tv?

3. is the communication more for the band members or for me?

4. If I do build a drum room, what's the smallest I can make it? I read some were about Left Banks drum room being small but it has a real good sound to it. I can't read what's on their something about 3600mm, plus I don't understand meters something about 25.4. so can some one help me out with the measurements?

5. I know the walls are angled at a certain degree but is their a certain size for them ex: left wall 4' wide/ middle wall 2' wide/ right wall 4'wide
but the two outer walls angled of course? My control room might be 12 feet
wide.

I don't know what kind of music I'll be recording because I never recorded instuments before but I'll learn. I want to be able to record a band what ever it might be in my studio so I'm trying to design it to fit the needs of band/drummer/ or a person with a instrument.

Thank You
Ozzie

Ozzie - firstly to convert meters to feet multiply by 3.3 i.e 3 meters is 9.9ft.

yes left bank is a small room but it sounds great for a particular kind of drum sound i.e. clean and tight. Whereas take a look at Cloud Studios at the same site - the drum room there is around your size but it's a live sounding room.

You really need to work out what sort of sound you are looking for ;)

A few more questions

Hi John, is it ok if I call you John? Thank you for replying back. I can't find cloud studios but I'll keep on looking. I just wanted to let you and anybody that is so kindly to help me out to know ahead of time to please have patient's with me because I get confuse real easily plus I don't want you or anybody on this form to go off on me so please bear with me and if you do decide to help me can you give direct answers like

EX: Can I build a studio out of candy?
EX of your reply: No, because you will eat it all and you will lose all your teeth.

The reason I'm saying this is because people tell me stuff and I understand what they are saying for that moment but then a million other things start poping in my head later and that were I start getting on peoples nerves with all my million of questions- just ask Steve
You really need to work out what sort of sound you are looking for
Questions:

1. John how do I find out what sound I'm looking for, if I don't know what I'm looking for, can you help me out?

2. Do I need to know what sound I'm look for to find out what size of room I need to design or build? all I'm trying to do right now is design a layout for my studio.

3. I don't know if this makes sense but can I build a universal room?

4. last but not least can you or anybody answer questions 1,2,3 and 5 from my first post?

Thank You
Ozzie

P.S.
I would like direct answers if I could but hell I'll take what ever I can get and I'm out

Sorry guys I was just checking if something was wrong with the forum because I posted some questions and you know how it shows how many replies there are before you click on a topic and it should be showing 3 replies not including this one ( I think ) but it's not, it only shows 2. My first post and John sayers reply and not my last reply which should make it 3 and 4 with this one here. I just want to make sure ya see my reply so you can reply back, now if you do see my reply and don't want to reply back now that's a diffrent story but a least you had a choice and I had a chance.

Thank You
Ozzie

P.S.
John you can delete this later if you want and if I have all this wrong I'm sorry I'm still kind of new to this.
