screws, shelves and shorting isolation

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

screws, shelves and shorting isolation

Post by plus6vu »

I know this has been covered some, but I couldn't find it by searching.

I am wanting/needing to put up some shelves in my studio, but I know (I think) that putting screws through the layers is going to short the isolation somewhat. The question is how much? Especially if I take care to put the screws through to studs, since the two layers are screwed together at the studs anyway.

The two layers are 3/4" OSB and 5/8" gypsum on 16" wood 2" x 4"'s.

Thanks!

As long as you don't shortfuse 2 different layers, it's okay.
So, your plan looks fine. No worries!
