)Anyway... I have sort of inherited my grandparents old house and am thinking about setting up a personal studio in one of the rooms.
My work mainly consists of mixing, editing, and tracking (usually vocals and guitars.) I won't be recording drums or any full-band scenarios. If I need to I will hire a larger studio. I don't worry so much about sounds from the studio escaping into the house, BUT the house is near a rather noisey area (karaoke bars, pubs with live band) so it is important that sound from outside does not get IN.
I'm happy with a one-room studio. I don't mind tracking in the "control room". Basically I need space for my desk/chair, space to set up and record guitars/vocals, and a sofa.
And I'd like to keep costs to a minimum
I've been looking at 2 rooms, which are both on the second floor of the house. Both have wood floors. Oh, and I'm in Thailand (hot, humid, tropical weather-- air con will be important)
Room #1:
Cons:
1. Has bathroom (which I don't really need -- just another means of sound transmission thru the door that will have to be dealt with)
2. Kinda small (I assume that once the studio walls are constructed, dimensions will be even smaller)
Pros:
1. High, slanted ceiling
2. Has bathroom (if done properly, it would be nice to have a bathroom nearby)
Room #2
Cons:
1. "Normal" height ceiling

The "concrete wall with wooden window" in the diagram is basically concrete from the floor up 1 meter. Then wood window frames up to the ceiling. Does that make sense? I wish I could take a picture but I don't have a digital camera.
I hope I haven't left any other important details out.
Personally I'd like the larger room, but the smaller room's high ceiling is tempting. But then again, I know very little about studio construction which is why I thought I better get some advice!
