I know its out there

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

I know its out there

Post by southern9999 »

I know its out there I have waited for the site to reopen, which is great to see. WHEWWWWWW, I was worried about you guys.... Any Hoo, I need the plans to build a guitar amp box.

I seen it once before on here but after 2 hours of searching I could use some help.

The purpose of this box was so you could put it over an amp and mic and record guitar with a good volume through your amp but cut down on room noise.

Thanks
Scot.

Scot, I couldn't find anything here either - here's all I could find with a google -

http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp/20 ... ation.html

Looks like they're set up so you just remove the top part when you want to play live - might be able to build your amp into something like that. With a good seal around the two sections and building the box (outside to inside) with 3/4 ply, then 5/8 gypsum, then 2" rigid fiberglas, you would get a fair amoung of isolation. I wouldn't expect it to sound wonderful though - just quieter.

Another idea -

And another commercial one - I'd slant the inside spkr baffle to avoid parallel walls though -

Another VERY interesting link, added it to my bookmarks -

http://www.amptone.com

And one more article, that brings up the tone limitations of iso boxes -

There were a few others, but you can find them yourself with a google search on "guitar isolation box" - you will get a bunch of DI box links, but I sorted out all the above links from that search... Steve
