help newbie with layout?

Hi folks. Sure would make this ol hippy smile if someone could shed some light for me.

I’m trying to reno my pathetic little 16’ X 16’ shack into something workable. I’ve attached a bird’s-eye and a cross section of what I have now (please don’t laugh too hard), and a SAE pic of what I think I want to do, roughly. I’m wondering though if the sloped ceilings are going to mess me up acoustically?

I’d appreciate any help I can get, mostly ‘cause I’m just learning about this stuff. I’ve got lots of good advice so far though, from this site and the SAE one. If the corner control room concept won’t work because of the sloped ceilings could you recommend another one?

It's probably too small to do a corner control room design plus your walls are low starting at 5'2".

Your main problem will be all the egg cartons!! these units really do nothing for sound other than sucking up a bit of the high top end leaving the rest of the frequency spectrum to rattle around in your room.

With such a low ceiling you should start by getting some decent fibreglass/rockwool and replace the egg cartons.

So I guess what I'm looking at then is more of one room does it all idea? I can live with that I guess. In a

case like mine

would it make sense to aim at getting the room EQ as flat as possible, then colour the sound digitaly?

BTW, the agg cartons are going into the fire pit today

. Is the fiberglass you're talking about some sort of semi-solid board type stuff or the big fluffy batts? Pardon my lack of knowledge, this is all new to me. I've checked around a bunch of design sites and I'm still not real clear on this.

Yes, Owens corning 703 - comes in varying thickness 1-3".

The ceiling could work well I think. Perhaps some 703 panels/clouds in places.

Here's a thought. I take it you are not worried about sound leaking out to neighbors? Anyhow how about an addition? Small addition -- One double window, one double door.

Build a small 8 X 14' addition for a booth for Vocal/drums/guitars..whatever. Build it with the same roofline as the main building for maximum room volume.

Yeah, that just might work for me. Would the 703 attach right to the gyprock on the ceiling or should I strip the gyprock out and attach it right to the lumber? Then maybe use some diffusion instead of gyprock over top?
