My mixing environment.

Hey John, I was looking for you over at HR.com and I ended up finding my way over here. Hooray.

Anyway, I posted this in hopes that you could help me out, and I'm just going ot copy and paste it in here for you (or anyone else) to look over when you get the chance. Any pointers or helpful tips are welcomed!

Well here it comes. I need to work on my bedroom now to be the kind of mixing place that all of the high end mixing guys want to go.

Or at least something that will work.

One of the two.

So anyway. I go on location to record and bring my stuff back to my place to mix, so I want a decent mixing environment to work in. My room is a pretty crazy design.

Therefore I've taken tons of pictures of my walls and room so you guys can take a look and help me out. Yes I'm looking to drop some dough, but probably no more then a grand.

So, without further adou (I'm linking everything because the pictures are pretty huge):

I'll start out with the overhead view: here.

Next will be the wall directly behind me: cross section of south wall.

Well. That took a little while to do. I'm wondering if the overhang across my room will effect anything terribly? What about the slope behind me on my left side on the ceiling/wall?

Christopher - I'd start by playing around with the way your gear is laid out in the room - it's better if your speakers fire down the long section of your room so start by trying this layout out.

Thanks John for the reply.

I've grabbed your image and changed some things. The entertainment center where you put it is where the door is

, so I moved that to the wall. I scaled down the size of the desk to be more proportionate.

Also I had to add in the couch, so I stuck it straight across from the entertainment center.

I'll move everything else around until it fits.

Anyway. I was curious about bass traps, or other acoustic treatments like that to add to my room? Any suggestions of where and how much?

Okay, I moved my room all around and it's like my picture above. I ended up putting my fridge in the closet, but the door won't close now. My question is: If I have the doors off of my closet will it help or hurt, or neither?

Also. How far away from the closet should I have my desk? Any certain amount?

Make some bass hangers attach them to some steel hangers and place them in your closet.
