Hey everyone,
My first post and its a fairly hefty one! I have been researching on this site as well as recording.org, sae, sound on sound etc. for about the past 6 months, I am now finally at the layout/acoustics stage and wondered if anyone would be kind enough to give a second opinion/advice. I am building my studio in a large wooden shed. This is located on a farm about a mile from the nearest neighbour, though it is about 25 feet from our house.
The walls are about 25mm tongue & groove, I have then packed 50mm of RW3 rockwool, (703 to you I believe) between the studs and have 25mm plasterboard over that. This should keep out birds, rain, wind, and should be fine for stopping most sound getting to the house which has thick old style stone walls! (but single glazed windows!!)
The space is 18 Feet by 10 Feet with a pitched roof of about 11 at the apex. There are no windows and one door at one of the lond ends shown as a thin blue line on the diagram. The floor will be wood.
I have done some quick mock ups in photoshop to show the space
I would like help on the layout of acoustic treatments. I have included some rough ideas of where I think they may be needed. Do you think a lot of bass trapping will be required given the fairly small walls? Is diffusion worth my while?
I plan to use this to record and mix, I was planning to have it fairly live at one end and a bit more dead at the other - LeDe then having some movable panels to deaden the live end more when mixing, is this a good idea?
Here are the pics, the orange bits are acoustic panels or bass traps, the re box is a hefty iso box for loud equipment the blue is the electrics iso box with a transformer in for the lights I plan to add some more racks + storage near the desk.
Thanks,
Dale

thanks for the reply
Cheers for the reply John, I have checked out Laptop Pops section on a couple of occasions - and it helped me to come up with this plan, I didn't want to lose quite as much floor space as him so I think I will opt for bass trapping at the corners and on the ceiling posssibly slot reso's on the rear wall and then 703 panels on the side walls for the nastier highs......
