I found THE cheap way and THE good way to....

Post by tenkas »

I found the cheap and good way to make some cheap aborbers (fiberglass or roxul mineral wool).

You take a fiberglass bat of let say, 3 inch thick, put it in a heavy duty garbage bag, you sceale the garbage bag and voila! There is your absorber.

I would like to know if using garbage bags to cover fiberglass (or mineral fiber) could be ok.... I just bought some 3inch AFB roxul so I want to know if covering it with garbage bag is as effective has covering it with the black cloth you put on a garden (john suggested it).

So please help me here guys, thx a lot!

Yup - that will work - it will reflect the extreme high end but I don't think that's a bad thing

Hi John! Man thanks a lot you guys! I am only 16 and I only work on weekends so I can get a little money to build my studio. I was looking for a cheap alternative and there is my answer.

I guess that everyone one tight budget sshould look and garbage bags! Don't forget that orange garbage bags would look KILLER lol

But is it dangerous for health to hang fiberglass with only a cover of fabric?

thx

anything about the health issue of using fabric? And if all of my absorbers are covered with gargabe bags, is it going to reflect TOO MUCH of the highs? If so I could but a few peaces of carpet in a CHECKER form on the garbage bag so 1/2 highs are absorbed, 1/2 highs are reflexed, what u guys think?

thx a lot

I wouldn't see fabric coverings over fiberglass as a health issue, unless you chose to EAT the fabric. And the dye in the fabric would kill you quicker than the fiberglass would.

oh! I see... so if I keep on a regular diet, the fabric should do anything to me... good to know! And do you know good temporary methods of hanging fiberglass panels on walls? (I was thinking about a special type of glue that washes of quickly... dunno if it exists... thx a lot!

Also, keep in mind that RockWool is VERY dense! Any "fibers" that fall off of it are so heavy they aren't likely to become airborne.

Not to mention rockwool is made out of steel and rock.

Hmm those are carcinogenic now aren't they. LOL

No Bryan - Rockwool is made from ROCK!! It's melted and air blasted against a flat wall to produce a wool which is then cut into sheets. I don't think rock dust is carcenogenic otherwise there would be no quarries.
