My question is how well does a plywood or MDF floor resting on spacers on a basement slab work as a bass absorber? If I'm reading Everest's formula for diaphragmatic absorbers correctly, it looks like 5/8" plywood sheets (figuring 2 pounds per square foot) just 3/4 inches off the floor should soak up a lot of bass at right around 139 Hz, which has a wavelength of about 8 feet, the standard basement ceiling height. How effective is it to use such a floor as a bass trap, in your experience?
