Bunnings Insulation - Suitable Broadband Panel Absorber?
Hi guys,
I went to Bunnings (hardware store chain in Australia) and looked at all the insulation they had available. I took a photo of the specs on the bag. I'm guessing this is not even close to the correct specs?
It has 3.5m2k/W on it. It's Glasswool Batts. That's not dense enough I'm guessing. I couldn't find any information in the Reference Area on the specs that the foam needs to be.
Thought it best that I head out and see what's available and ask whether it's suitable. Is this stuff any good for Broadband Panel Absorbers?
regards,
Dwane Hollands

Just a quick question John.
How important is the Matt black part. There's a significant saving if I just go with "Plain". Is the black for asthetics or must it be black matt?
Thanks.
Incidently, the price I've been given is $299.00 + GST per pack of 5 (2400x1200x50m) for the black matt. $233.10 + GST per pack of 5 (2400x1200x50mm).

It's not important Duane - I didn't realise there was a significant price difference.

Great to hear! Thanks again John! Works out to be about $50 per 2400x1200x50mm so I'm pretty happy with that price!
I've ordered a few rolls of canvas which I'll begin experimenting printing on. Will post pics as soon as I've got the first few created.
regards,
Dwane

Another option instead of canvas, which is bulky, is unbleached cotton.

Oh, I've got to get a particular type of Canvas which I believe has an emulsion that helps make it printable. It'll be very high quality full colour prints. It's actually Epson an branded canvas.

John,
The product you mentioned is 32kg/m3 according to Fletcher's product guide.
http://www.insulation.com.au/content/up ... 283%29.pdf Page 32
Is 240550 definitely the right stuff? I'm also interested in making some broadband panel absorbers.

Oh damn them at Fletcher - I specifically contacted them because their products are so hard to find on the web. I was assured that was the product number - they were wrong.
this is the product - on page 25.
BTW thanks for the link to the brochure.

OK,
I finally got some pricing on the 48kg/m3 product. It's dramatically more expensive.
AUD$429 for 3 x 2400x1200 @ 50mm thick. (it almost works out to be 3X more expensive)
Does that send of alarm bells for being too expensive?
regards,
Dwane

Either the Australian dollar suffered a dramatic setback overnight, or that price is a rip off! IT should be hand-delivered to your door and installed for free by a team of bikini babes, for that price!

Yeah I thought it sounded a bit expensive!
Yikes! Anyone in Australia know of a better outlet? Problem would be freight to Darwin Northern Territory.

Re: Bunnings Insulation - Suitable Broadband Panel Absorber?
Great Thanks John!
Spoke to Kevin just then. He knows his stuff. He was saying that 32kg/m3 is generally the best value versus 48km/m3. But a 20kg/m3 at 85mm thick is just as good as a 32kg/m3 at 50mm.
He's preparing me some quotes and freight etc. About $10 per square meter for the insulation versus my previous $49! (obviously different products)
