Soffit design question

Post by lowlife »

I am about to close the soffits for the main monitors (small studio). I was just wondering about a few things:
1) Do you guys use insulation pressed against the baffle front or just behind the speaker and letting the inside of the front reflect directly into the plywood?
2) Currently when testing my monitors without the front I feel that I lack some bass when having the LF set to -6 in the speaker setup. Will the front add more bass to the sound?

Yes that is the point of soffit mounting.
-6 bass is good, close it up and give it a try.
I'm sure you'll be amazed.

Are your monitors well vented for cooling?

Thanks lilith, will close it up and test away.

I reckon it should be sufficent venting for the speakers since I do not fill it all the way back with insulation and have venting port drilled throught the speaker stand.
