newbie bedroom studio

Post by niles »

I posted this in the acoustic forum but i don't think that was the right place. I just wanted to get some suggestions for my bedroom studio. My main problem is the parralel walls but one has windows the other doesn't so it's hard to build both sides in symmetry. Also i rent so i can't really attach anything big to the walls. Any suggestions would help right now i just have egg crate foam on the walls that are parralel and pillows stacked in the corner for some super budget bass traps and to cut down on reflections but i am looking to build something that works better. Thank you

Niles - firstly I'd try putting the bed in the bottom right corner and moving your desk to being in between the windows on the top wall so the speakers fire down the length of the room - try that and get back to us.

Thanks for the advice John. My problem with moving my desk inbetween the windows is the double doors the speakers will be facing. They are really thin and sound would bleed out through them very easily. Right now i hae a curtain hanger over them and when i am recording i put a blanket on the hanger so it reduces some noise but do you have any suggestions as to how to prevent a lot of the bleeding through the doors. I really need to make the room somewhat soundproof so i don't disturb the neighbors.

Thank you again,
Niles

Niles the position of your speakers is not going to change the STC of your doors. I suggest you go and get some rubber strips to seal up the doors - your local hardware shop should have something that will do it.
