Unusual Design Question

Post by Green House »

A while back I asked a question about straw bale construction...well, I am at it again.

My wife is about to get her degree in civil engineering and is interested in a eco-friendly type of construction known as cob (like adobe, but with straw mixed in as a sort of organic rebar). The technique is well researched and sound, and is even touted by some as being a good method of studio construction for the following reasons:

1. Walls are thick and massive (good for stc)
2. Walls are thick and massive (good for r-factor)
3. The walls can be designed with unusual angles at NO EXTRA COST
4. It is dirt cheap (pun intended)

So my question...how might you design a little studio (control room, live room, dead room) if the walls could be ANY shape? Without the limitations of more "linear" construction materials.

Circular control room? NO! all reflections end up in the listening center.

I wouldn't change my designs if I had access to that style of construction - but it's a nice style of construction IMO - go for it ;)

cheers
