I Have Some Question About Making A Studio.

Post by MANDOLIN »

How much space is suggested?
How much on average will it cost? (for the constructin, not equpment)
What are the chances it will come out "good"?
Is there a chance that I would have to start all over?, or once it's done it's done?

How do you know if the studio will be a good studio? Is there any way of knowing before you start or is it trial and error?

If someone could anwser any of these questions it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Wade

Wade - I'd like to answer all those questions but I don't have all day and they've all been answered on this forum before.

Perhaps you could use the search button first?

How much will it cost?
- it isn't cheap - not sure if my experience is average or typical but it will end up around 25$/sqft - but that doesn't include any labor because I did the labor myself and the structure was already there although it was just a shell. Labor would make it more like $100 sqft would be my guess. You can totally do it yourself so long as you can find a friend who enjoys learn as you go construction and drinking beer. It would be impossible to do on your own because stuff like drywall is just too heavy for 1 person to handle.

Would you have to start over?
No, if you read this board there is no reason why you would have to start over. In fact if you did have to start over then hanging yourself would be a more attractive option.

Is it trial and error?
No, research up front. If you are going to embark on a project like this - its worth to spend a few months planning. John does phone calls at a very reasonable price - I took that route for planning the layout and it was invaluable. There is a lot of confuising and conflicting info out there and speaking to somebody who has built many studios is definately a good idea.

Good luck with the project if you start it - it will be a very rewarding experience. Construction is real fun - except when you stand on a big ass nail and can't walk for 2 weeks.
