Control and live areas in the same long room??

Post by noisestudios »

Hi guys!

I currently own and use a recording studio/post production suite. It occupies one room (375 sf), 25x15. I cannot build any new walls or change the structure of the room in any way, but I need a more effective layout. Right now I have the live area in the middle of the room and the control area in the corner, and this is not very effective at all. When I'm working, its extremely cramped and not aesthatically pleasing or symmetrical.

Tell me: if I put the control area in the middle of the room, with a client lounge area on one end and a live area on the other (I would like for singers to sing into the room, not to a wall) would that be okay acoustically?

And, could you point me in a general direction as to how I should place sound foam?

Thanks guys, you are a godsend.

But you could build room dividers? or gobos as they are called. These could be used to divide the room up into different areas.

cheers
