Practical bass trap for a unique ceiling?

Post by spicyitaliano »

Due to construction limitations, the rear of my control room's ceiling has a 2 1/2 ft drop, which drops down at about the 5 ft point and continues all the way to the back. (Refer to the graphic)

I am curious as to if I could build a bass trap that was both acoustically and esthetically beneficial. I got the idea from a picture of a 'Sound on Sound Studios' control room. The entire upper/inner ceiling is lined with wood panels which lean forward into the center of the control room. (Refer to the red circle on the picture) This seems like it could be modified and would work as an excellent bass trap. Or it could even be a modified version of John's corner absorber, up on it's side.

I would build something similar to what's in the picture, but it could be a sealed frame with insulation inside. With the corner absorber design in mind, I could actually space the wood slats across a black cloth to get the same effect as the slot resonators. The triangular shaped abosrber would line the entire rear ceiling where the wall meets it. In my specific case, I actually have two of these sections, due to another ceiling drop, as you can see in my graphic.

Can anyone help me with this design, or let me know if it's a pointless waste. Thanks.
