Hangers vs. Wad of 703

Post by AlexW »

I've got a problematic corner in my room which is burping out bass frequencies of alarming magnitude. I could fill it out floor to cieling with 703 similar to the opposite side, but I've got a refrigerator their sitting on a small desk at the proper elevation for leaning across and grabbing a well chilled malt beverage--would hate to have to move it. So I'm looking for something I can do in the space above the fridge that might help alleviate the problem. My thoughts are either build out a frame at top the fridge and up flush with the ceiling and fill it with 703; or install some panel hangers. Depth of the notch is around 3 feet. I've attached a picture to better illustrate. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Alex,

A great place to mount rigid fiberglass is straddling the tri-corner at the top of the two walls where they meet the ceiling. That said, one bass trap in an entire room is not going to solve anything. If you're looking for a real solution you need to consider at least eight traps, all mounted in corners.

Thanks Ethan.

I've got traps in every other corner of the room. I've also lined two walls with your DIY traps floor to ceiling. This one area is the only major problem I've got left. I've got a lot of left over 703. Would it be better to angle a single trap as you propose or just fill in a larger area. I'm not really looking to conserve material at this point--I just want what's going to be most effective.

Alex,

Sorry for the long delay, but the site has been having technical difficulties.:)

Yeah, if conservation isn't a big concern, then filling the space with hangers will be the most effective treatment.

I agree with Thomas - when material cost is no object, the more the merrier.
