Help on my first studio project.

Post by Frontman »

:D Hello this is my first post here and to be honest anywhere. I have to start out by saying that this forum is great and the commitment given by its creator and moderators is admirable. I have been looking around for some time at the posts that come in and that were all ready there. I was wondering if I could get some advice on a direction to go with my studio project. I don’t have a lot of room and I am unsure how to set up what I want. I was thinking of a control room and a live room. I have attached a drawing (crude and not to scale I apologize) with the room dimensions. The black circles are foundation metal posts and unmovable, they are however only 4 inches in diameter. They are each 12 ft from the wall in front of them, the first one closest to the wall is 83 inches out and the second is 96 inches from the first. This is pretty much all the room I will have to work with. There is actually 26 ft from side to side but I have to leave a 4 ft closet because the cleanout is there. If anything does happen I’d rather not have to clean out into the studio. The areas are 10ft x 10 ft and 20ft 2in x 12 ft and the height is 8ft all around. There are no walls or other obstructions (other than the supports) so it is pretty much wide open for whatever. If you get a chance and could possibly help with an idea on the design I would be much appreciative. Thank you for your time.

Hoi Frontman - welcome to the site.

That's a nice space you have there - why can't we have the whole left section?? maybe a more detailed plan might reveal more but looking at it I want to use all the left hand section and we could all create a nice studio in that space - right everyone ??

cheers

Thanks for replying so quickly. Unfortunately i am unable to use all of the basement....the wife wants an area to do whatever it is she does. I've attached a new sketch, more to scale with just the areas i have available to me to do with as i please. On the right wall 6 ft has a wall alreday, the other 6 is open yet. The black dots are the foundation supports spaced (from the left wall) 7 ft in and 12ft down from the top wall in the drawing. The second is another 9 ft from the first also 12 ft from the top. The ceiling is 8 ft high. I hope this gives a better representation of the area i have. Again thank's for the quick response and i look forward to hearing from you again.

:D Hello again, after some more reading and borrowing some art( i hope you don't mind i carved some of the other images around for ideas) i have a starting point. The control room at the bottom half, have the live room split for drums and vocals/guitar. Aside from the fact i forgot to put a door in the control room , just noticed that. Let's hope i catch it befor we get done building... anyway here it is , if anyone has any suggestions i would love to hear them. I'm not sure with the space i have if I can make the rooms a comfortable size. Thanks in advance.

First Problem is the 10 x 10 control room - square!! No NO

If you are prepared to get a contractor to remove one pole and replace with a larger support beam you could build something like this.

BTW this is to scale - that's a 8' wide drum kit.

cheers
