future garage studio, anywhere close
First of all, thanks for this site. All sorts of great information.
Now down to business... I've got a garage area in the barn behind my house I want to turn into studio space. The usable space is 22' x 15' 5" x 8' 5".
I've created a floor plan based on some of the other plans I've seen here. Am I on the right track? Comments please!
Thanks,
Brett

Updated plan
Since it appears that I was going in the right direction, I went back and made sure that my dimensions correct and unfortuneately my inside walls with the drywall doubled up are going to be 6 inches thick, which means that after resizing the live room to 10 feet wide, the control room only grew by 9 inches.
Another issue I haven't quite come to grips with is how to approach the ceiling. Right now it's just exposed 2 x 8 floor joists. I assume it shouldn't be parallel to the floor and should have some absorption. What's the preferred way to approach this? I want to avoid losing too much height. As it is now, I figure it will be slightly less than 8' after I get the floor in.

Brett - how far away are the neighbours?? do you really need 6" walls?
go and taqke a look at Left Bank at http://johnlsayers.com/Studio/Mainpage/MP-Leftbank.htm
This is a typical Barn - the closest house is 100 yards away yet they can rewcord drums at midnight without anyone else being concerned.
The advantage of the building technique is that you retain almost all your floor space due to the inside out wall construction.
cheers

John,
Actually I was wondering if my walls were thicker than necessary, but I was erring on the side of caution. The nearest neighbor is about 50 feet from the studio area and then there are a few others just a bit farther than that. I'm less concerned with keeping sound in than with keeping sound out. There is a plant across the street that is particularily noisy when the shift changes. There is a lot of farming in this area as well so there are frequently tractors and trucks driving past.
I looked at the Left Bank project before, but somehow I missed the wall diagram. That's a cool looking studio. What's the final thickness of the wall? Also, It looks like the walls put directly on the concrete before the floor is installed. I've seen other diagrams here where the wall is built on top of the floated floor. Which is more typical?
Thanks,
Brett

John-
D**n! You're good! I just read that thread a little while back before you posted that last drawing and I was thinking that I ought to do something about the shape of my live room. Then boom! you post that drawing and it looks like I can an ISO booth as well, which is something that I wanted but didn't think I had room for.
Actually it's kind of spooky, but I can live with that.
Thanks again,
Brett

I took that the last design you pointed me to and it didn't quite fit my dimensions so I redid it to fit my space. I also added in labels for where I think the acoustical treatments for the control room should be. Hopefully, I didn't mess anything up in the translation.
For the crowd at large -
I would like to get some opinions (hopefully based on experience) about how to treat the acoustics for the live room and booth.
