Harman Mode Calculator - new location

Post by knightfly »

Harman has redone their site, and of course nothing works anymore :(

Here is the new way to get the Harman Mode Calculator, for which you'll need Excel running on your computer -

First, go to

http://www.harman.com/about_harman/tech ... rship.aspx

Then click on "White papers" -

This brings you to a page where you can either read their papers, or click on "Calculators" - you want "Calculators".

Then, click on "Read" - it will bring you to a page where you can download either of the two calculators offered, one of which is the mode calc.
Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...

This site is excellent!

One Q which may be slightly off topic is that the Reslab 2 Calculator looks excellent but I only have access to windows xp / mac os x.

What is the best way to run this calc?

IF it'll run under Win2000 it should run under XP - I'd try it and see... Steve

Room Mode Calculator
By Dr. Floyd E. Toole, Vice President Acoustical Engineering,
Harman International Industries, Inc.
  • This is a Microsoft® Excel® program for the PC that calculates the resonance frequencies for rectangular rooms, and which shows graphically the sound pressure distributions along the major axes of the room. To use it, type your room dimensions into the WAVES component of the calculator. The dimensions are automatically entered into MODES. Its use is explained in Part 3 of "Loudspeakers and Rooms for Multichannel Audio Reproduction."

Reslab 2: A Program That Allows You to Model, Plot and Listen to the Effect of Resonances
By Todd Welti, Research Acoustician, Harman International Industries, Inc.
  • Reslab 2 is a program that allows you to play with resonances. This very sophisticated program allows the user to model, plot and listen to the effect of resonances. Plots include FFT, impulse response, ETC, spectrograms, etc., of input, resonance and output. Different source signals may be selected for analysis and auralization, including user-supplied files. Output of auralization may be saved to a file. Runs under Windows® 98/Me/2000. Perform your own experiments on the audibility of resonances!

Thanks Eric - haven't been dead (so far  ) just too busy to notice my name in the obituary column...

The good news is, 6 months of only PART time video work has netted me over $25k, so my "retirement" in a couple years should pay more than I make actually WORKING

It's good to be back, if only for a "break"... Steve

Knightfly- That room cal seems to calculate wrong?
I convert meters to ft- then enter it in to the calculator- then in the 2nd tab it converts back to meters...but it's different to my original figures?
It maybe my ignorance to imperial measurements..... help!

These links seem to alter regularly:

Via this page you find the Harman Calculators:
http://www.harman.com/EN-US/OurCompany/ ... alculators

and via the left-hand menu on this page you can find the whitepapers and scientific publications.

This Dr. Floyd E. Toole, Vice President Acoustical Engineering, Harman International Industries, Inc. is the author of the recent book:
Sound Reproduction: The Acoustics and Psychoacoustics of Loudspeakers and Rooms

Thanks Eric! There's a lot of good information in those publications. I'm reading through them now. Interesting stuff in some of them.

Thanks!

"chal3oye", why are you repeating the exact same question, identically worded, that was asked by stevesdata nearly SEVEN years ago, and which has already been answered in detail?

That's a tactic normally used by spammers... So I'll be watching your next move very closely... :)
