I am trying to help you. The variation that I am referring is in the test method. Compare apples to apples.
If you are going to have an attitiude then the right way to calculate density is mss/volume.

Mass = 48Lb per box
Volume = 4 CuFt per box
Density = Mass/Volume = 48/4 = 12 Lb/CuFt

Just reporting in two years after using both the Auralex and the Armstrong insulation-
They both seem to have worked excellently, both as bass traps and as sound absorbers.
