Hi,
First let me say what a very informative and friendly forum you have here.
My name is Johan. I work as a music tech teacher for a collage in North London/UK
We have 2 performance rooms and are about to convert a smaller room that sits adjacent to one of them into a control room.
My plans is to have 24 tie lines in between the rooms and I’ll be using a distribution amp for headphones so will only be sending line level.
My problem is that in the performance room the stage is located on the opposite side to where the control room is and I was hoping to get some feedback on the ideas I have for connecting the rooms.
Please see attached plan over the rooms for a better overview.
The performance room have been build as a semi floating room as a sound proofing measure.
I've been trying to read up on this as much as possible but forgive me if I've used the wrong terminology or if something
seems completely weird
My first option is:
Control room: A 2U wall plate 32 holes for expansion but only using 24 connected to an identical wall plate in the performance room using Neutrik XLR connectors and foil screened wiring.
I will extend to the stage using a pre built stage box with a 24 tail or build my own if that is substantially more cost effective.
Option 2:
A wall plates on either side of the stage and extend back thru the walls to the control room using a PVC conduit and terminate in a 24 XLR or Jack tail.
If I don’t use wall plates (in between the rooms) the snake would have to go straight through the wall as there are three walls and it’s probably to difficult to use a bended conduit.
Of course it’s a possibility to make a combination of the two alternatives.
We’re hoping to do the wiring for around £750 ($1500) but of course cheaper if possible.
I’ve helped out on studio builds in the past but I’ve never sourced material so any suggestions and comments would be greatly appreciated as I’m a newbie
Cheers
Johan

Hello Johan, and Welcome to the site.
The fewer the connections, the better.
Will you be running the 24 pair directly to a console, a patchbay, or just a wall plate?
As far as the tracking room, you can do a couple options.
1: Run the wire directly from the control room, through the wall to a Stage Box.
2: Run the wire from the control room to a wall plate in the tracking room to XLR connectors. Then have a stage box you can plug into the XLR's.
3: Same as #2, except use a multi-pin connector for your stage box.
Question: Are your walls already built and sealed up, or do you have access to them (framing)?
There are a few other idea's, but would like a little more detail on your intended setup.
