We have been shown a number of different split-type A/C & Heater units. Upoon doing deeper research, I have discovered that the Hitachi Split type is less expensive and Reportedly quieter than the other units out there.
I quote the following specs:
Noise Level - Indoor unit
Fan Speed db(A)
HI 40
MID 35
LOW 31
Above is the link.
Hope this helps you in your designs. 31 dbA is quieter than the latest Apple G5 at idle which is reported at 35dbA
This unit requires a standard 20 Amp 115v Circuit with a running current of 8.0 Amps Cooling output at 9300 Btu/h
Dimensions of the interior unit are as follows:
11-3/4" High, 32 1/2" Wide 7-7/16" Deep
The units feature 3 modes, heat/Cool and Dehumidify
I have placed my order and when it arrives (Truck freight) and I get it installed, I'll report back my findings. Especially the air quality issues. Due to the quietness of this unit, I do plan to install it into my live room as well as one in the control room.
These units sell shipped for as alow as $634.00.
The Least expensive Dealer I have found is Maytag in LA, Cali

$450 or thereabouts.
Seems this unit provides heating capacity as well, I very much like that idea for my studio... because it has forced hot water via radiators, but its plumbed at the tail of the heating lines so they never get that hot.
And because the house is single zone, if my wife fires up the oven, the thermostat clicks off, and I get ice on my console

Bryan, have they found some sneaky way to also accomplish fresh air, or would you still need to do a separate air handler for that? All the mini-splits I've seen so far only do recirculation, since there are only refrigerant lines to the outside??!? Also, that unit only beats out the Mitsubishi I looked at by 1 dB at the low setting, but I think it's a little cheaper too... Steve
Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...

Nope, no air recirc design in there. If I get cabin issues, I'll just open the studio door for a minute and freshen the air.
And these new fangled air filters work pretty well. Think about it all these new construction houses are so freakin airtight you gotta filter the doo doo out of the air. LOL
The mistubishi unit costs about $2200 up here in MI and you cannot buy it seperate and do a self-install. I had a contractor some out and survey me but the price was waaaayyy tooooo steep for one room of A/C

Shipping costs is $233.00 so it ends up at $632. just 2 dollars less than my lowest cost.
Nah, Shipping is NEVER that expensive. I have had 200 lb snakes shipped for less

For $233 I'd drive out there with my truck and pick it up, and visit friends along the way.
Cool on a good price!
