Soffit mounting Dynaudio BM5As?

Post by etflutes »

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I've been doing a fair bit of reading in a short time. I recently did a phone consult with John and he helped me do a make-over on the studio space that I'd been working with.

Even though the design incorporated soffit-style monitor mounts, I didn't really ask all of the questions that I should of at the time, so I'm hoping to pick up some further tips here. I've attached a pic of the design.

My monitors are Dynaudio BM5A actives. I had a couple of questions:

First of all, assuming that I make all of the appropriate allowances for air-flow and cooling, is there any other reason why I should not soffit mount these speakers? Any general advice from anyone who is familiar with them?

Also, in constructing the multi-chamber soffits for the speakers, how tightly sealed should they be? Obviously they cannot be airtight, because airflow is needed for cooling, but apart from the dedicated ports for cooling, is it necessary to seal them (like you would for a slot resonator, for example)?

I'm building them this weekend, so any input would be welcome--thanks!

Aloha,

Any chance you could resize the pic (700 pixels wide works real nice) to eliminate having to scroll back & forth in order to read your post, please? Thanks!
