Partitions in studios

Post by tgm »

What is the purpose of partition walls in studios? I've seen them mostly when vocals are being recorded, but I'm wondering the theory behind them and how/when to use them. I'm guessing they are typically absorbers?

On a side note: nice forum here. lots of great info and people is seems.

I assume you are refering to Gobos. Yes they are typically absorption on one side and reflective the other. They are used to isolate instruments or vocalists to reduce the spill between them and other instruments in the room.

C7sus has built some recently which you can see in the Studio Display forum at homerecording.com site.

cheers

Thanks. That's exactly what I was talking about but didn't know what they were called. Now I can do more research.
