looking for a little help for my room

Post by musicalhooks »

wow.. this looks like a great place for some great ideas! :)

Im glad knightfly turned me onto it.. Thanks

Well, I was wondering if anybody could throw some ideas out for me to help my room recover from acoustical muddiness.

My room is fairly symetrical, which is a mud generator I hear, and I was hoping I could make some slot resonators with some tounge and groove wood that I have received. Im not sure if I could use the slat with the tounge and groove on them, or would they have to be sawn off to achieve their acoustical duties.

Also, I would like to built mutiple box slot resonator ..maybe 7' x 3' .. so they can be moved around in the future? is this possible? and I havent seen any resonators that are flush with a wall... it seems like they are all on angles... to reflect the sound unevenly.

I also have carpet on my floor and was thinking about getting 144 sq/ft of hardwood... Is the carpet the least of my problems.. or do you think I need to put in the flooring and then work on acoustical tretment.

my main focus is recording my acoustic guitar and mixing on my monitors.

Well... I appreciate any time that can be donated for my little studio project..

Thanks!

Hi Mate - welcome to the site.

Firstly may I suggest to you, and to others, it really helps Steve, Thomas and myself if we know where you come from. Most from the US assume we know they come from there, but being an Australian, I don't assume anything because this is an international site and you could come from anywhere. ;)

Where you come from affects our consideration of the availability of building products etc. which can seriously affect our understanding of your problem.

So PLEASE everyone - nominate where you come from.

Ok so your room is a fair size but is basically a square box, with a slight extension to the door. It appears from your picture that you currently have no acoustic treatment at all.

Perhaps you should read up by searching this site and the SAE site for info on acoustic treatment and then come back with what you intend to do about it and we'd be happy to help you.

cheers
John
