tuning a small drum booth

Post by djdeef »

Hey how u all doin. OK i have a basic drum booth that is 5m side to side, 3.5 front to back wall and 2.3m to the celling. Now the room sounds ok but seems lumpy around 200 to 300hz. what would be the best way to trap and tone down these frequencies.i was thinkin of doing a wooded slat wall on both the 5m walls, would this help ? ?

cheers

Right idea, but without a sketch I'm kinda "shootin' in the dark" - generally, you'd want the slats on ADJACENT walls, and splayed - use the AVERAGE depth in the helmholtz calculator (this site only - most others have the WRONG formula)

By putting SPLAYED slats on one long and one short wall, you treat BOTH axes of the room for flutter. I'd center the target frequency at around 300, this is also the typical prime modal frequency of most kick drums BTW... 'll

You'll prob'ly want a "cloud" over the kit as well, to clean up your overheads' response... Steve
Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...

You might check out Silva Productions, here

Other than that, it's been quite a while since anybody asked; maybe search the acoustic forum for the words slat, slot, and helmholtz and see what comes up. If you don't find what you need, ask away and I'll regurgitate the stuff for ya... Steve
