How's my treatment look?

Post by Myriad_Rocker »

After lots or procrastinating  and reading, I finally got around to treating my room.

Here are a few pictures. With the exception of the clouds that are drying in the garage (fabric glue), this is all of it at my mixing area. There are also 2 more broadbands on the back wall.

Any other suggestions for treatment or is this good? The only other treatment that I can think of is on the window and on either side of the window. I'm going to do that in the next month or so when I get my monitors (Mackie HR824's).

Either I'm being impatient for a reply or I don't need anything else... :D

Do some measurements to see what the actual acoustics are. Then we can suggest.

Ok. When I get the tools and the knowledge to do that, I will. I think a microphone and monitors (at a minimum) are required.

I was kind of curious about the angled walls...

All you need is a flat small diaphragm omni such as a Nady CM-100 of a Behringer ECM8000, a full range speaker adn playback device, and a way to record the signal from the microphone. I can help you with everything else...Just ask.

While we are at that, what is the best way to connect Behringer to a computer. I plan to buy Audigy 4 (or should I buy 2 ZS?). Or should I take a look if somebody sells Nady (instead of Behringer) around here? -- Mario

Nady, Behringer, it's all the same. That's just the two companies I know of that sell cheap mics that are suitable for the purpose of acoustic measurement.

You will need some kind of preamp to connect the mic to the computer for recording. mic > XLR cable > preamp > soundcard > recording program. Some soundcards have built in preamps in little boxes that sit on your desktop. You might want to look into one of those, depending on what kind of audio work you do. I can help you find a good one if you need help.

Oh, please. I am not in that recording bussines, so I don't know those things. I am interested just to do some measures of my room acoustics, to help me with adjusting the acoustics of my listening (which is also living) room.
I plan to upgrade my soundcard soon. I want it to be good for both, computer games, and to deal with the sound I am getting from that microphone. I will buy audigy 4, if somebody doesn't say that Audigy 2ZS is better for this.
Regarding preamp which I can use with Behringer, can you recommend me some that costs as much as Audigy 4 sound card (which has roughly the same price as that Behringer mike, here in Croatia). Thanks. -- Mario

If all you need is a gaming soundcard then either one of those cards from Creative will suit you just fine. If you need the remote and the 7 channels of outputs, go with the Audigy 4; if you don't need that stuff, go with the 2ZS. With either one you will need a device called a preamp in order to use a measurement microphone wiht your card. A preamp provides electricity and amplification to the microphone. You connect the microphone to the preamp and then to the soundcard. If you need a cheap one that is only needed for the purpose of acoustic measurement, check for the cheapest preamps from ART or Behringer.

You may want to move up the side panels and straddle that first corner going up the wall. I can not tell by the prictures but 12" should do it. That way it is going to pick up more low end and high end.

Just a thought for you,
