Corner absorber question

Post by NL5 »

If I build a corner absorber out of 4" of 703, would an additional 2" of 8pcf MW behind the 703 do any good/harm? 8pcf MW is less than half the price of 703, so I picked some up before reading that it can reflect some higher freq's. These will be broadband absorbers in the rear corners of my CR.

Thanks.

No harm, but at some point you get diminishing returns and less "bang for the buck." So if the choice is between making fewer very thick traps, versus more four inch traps, more four inch traps is the better choice.

Thanks Ethan! :)

How effective is 8pcf MW by itself? Like I said above, it is less than half the cost of 703. I have found conflicting reports on the web, and don't know what to believe.

It starts to border on acting like a solid wall. Which is what you dont want.

BTW NL how are things. Hadnt seen you since I got too busy to participate in the Mix Contests.

Yes 8pcf is getting a little bit too dense. The denser stuff works, but has a less linear absorption curve. I'd stick with something in the 3-5 pcf range.

Been good. How about you? Sounds like you've been pretty busy.
