Mono jacks in a patchbay

Post by HKC »

I have a pretty big patchbay where I have included some jacks that were mainly meant to be used for guitar played in the controlroom to a guitar-amp in the recording rooms. The distance to one of the rooms is quite short, maybe 2 meters so it's not loss of signal, but for some reason I lose all grounding and I cannot stop the buzzing by holding down the strings so it's very noisy.
When I just put the plug in the amp without a guitar in the other end there's a serious noise which is very bassy.
All my balanced stuff works very well and there are no ground-loops but apparently there is something that I don't know about running a guitar through a patchbay.

Are you running any CRT monitors in the control room?

Is the wire close to ANY electrical wires?

What type of wire is being used and awg is it?

Is the sleve of the 1/4" jack grounded or isolated from the metal panel of the patchbay?

Can you remove the jack from the bay and test it that way to see if it disappears?
