So I've built a couple of corner traps using MDF top and bottom and chamfered 2x3s to stretch the fabric across. I've sealed around all edges and packed each to the hilt with 703. The traps are currently covered with the fabric.
They're in my live room and from a few rehearsals we've done I think they sound great--but could they be better?
I originally intended to follow John's design add Helmholtz style slats over the fabric. However, I recall reading over at the Acoustics web group a long while back a recommendation just to pack a bunch of 703 in and leave it exposed.
The ceiling is more or less covered with Ethan's DIY Mid-Bass trap design, and I've got an array of his high-mid-low traps along the wall between the two corner traps. The room is still a little boomy at high levels, but much tighter than it was. I plan to add some more of Ethan's traps around two of the other walls--so this will probably help some.
I've attached a rough plan of the space to give you some idea.
Thanks, Alex

A frequency profile from my mix position is in the "frequency profile" thread. Any thoughts between these two based on the layout of the room? Note that I haven't yet constructed any of the wall traps shown other than the ones along the rear wall (behind the drum kit). Should my mix position be relocated to a better part of the room? My desk is on wheels so I can cart it around pretty easily.
Thanks, Alex

First, where are your speakers positioned (including % of total ceiling height, which is??
Also, was that freq plot taken with the drums in the room?
The dual 20 foot dimensions aren't helping anything - you'll have several modal coincidences, some of which are in the range you're having problems with.
Thomas will probably have a few dozen other comments as well... Steve

Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...

Steve,
My monitors are on a set of shelves at roughly ear level when I'm sitting at the desk (say roughly 4 ft. 6 inches). The ceiling height is on average 8 feet by there's a slight pitch to the center where it goes up to almost 9 feet.
I'm guessing the plot was conducted with the kit in the room, though the level from my monitors at the desk I believe was low enough so their weren't any snare resonances or other rattles coming in--but can't be sure.
