I believe it would be safe to say that most of the guys here want the best for those of us who share our projects, questions, thoughts, and struggles.
That said, please know that this is in NO WAY meant to flame you or your ideas. (Besides, Steve "Knightfly" would be all over my case and anyone else's if I/we were to do so.
To my understanding, 6 1/2' would be too narrow for a control room - regardless of which way you set up your monitors and especially if you had the room to do otherwise. Not to mention the issues you'll be dealing with standing waves and treating the room.
Which brings to mind the question: "So what is the main function of your space?"
According to your intro:
According to your drawing, it appears that the live room/practice room is now the focus and the control room secondary. Perhaps a little more light on the subject to encourage appropriate participation might help? Now within this small space I am looking to be able to have three rooms and functions.
1. Control Room
2. Small Recording Room / Vocal Booth (Big enough for a drummer to sit in comfortably to record if needed.
3. Live Room / Practice Room.
Out of curiosity, other than "the gap to the right of the fixed column is not that big," were there any other reason/s why John's design wouldn't work for you?
Wanting to help...
