I've been lurking around for a while, but this is my first post. I first ran across John's handbook several years ago. I have thouroghly read that site, the studios under construction site, and the Everest books as well. I think I have a decent understanding of most studio building/acoustics concepts.
Recently, my wife to be and myself moved into our new house which has an unfinished basement. Our house is a split level so when you come in from the garage you can enter the basement rooms via a foyer. The stairs lead to a landing where the front door is. Then another set of stairs take you from the landing to the main floor.
The ceiling is just bare joists with a height of 8' 1.5" from the concrete floor to the joists.
I have attached the current layout and a proposed layout for my control room. There currently is a studded in wall between the smaller room(control room) and the larger room(live/studio room) which can be moved/removed if need be.
In my proposed layout I have each wall splayed 6 degrees in the control room. There will be 2 sliding glass doors for entry into the soundlock from the live room and control room. I will also close up the door from the foyer into the live room. Making the entrance to both rooms through the soundlock.
I think my control room might be to small, but I really want a good sized live room because I do not want to track drums in a small room. This arrangement seems to work best with what I want to accomplish, but I'm sure I am overlooking things.
Thanks,
Brian
