Clearsonic Isopac booth....

Post by LCD »

I'm considering getting one of these mainly for 2 reasons:

1. It's the only sensible option within my budget
2. I need to record vocals that I can then take to a large studio for mixing.

Are these Clearsonic's the real deal? What can I expect from them?

Thanks

No - it's NOT pointless. Please read and follow. In your case, mainly editing your profile to include a location. I'm getting really tired of having to remind people of this daily.

No, actually I'd be happier if you could look at a situation from the OTHER side of the table - I spend approximately 1000 hours a year (donated time) trying to help people get what they want out of life. I do this INSTEAD of working on my OWN projects, because I have firsthand experience of just how frustrating it can be to not waste time and money on things that don't work.

This is a WORLD wide resource, and I try to tailor my answers as much as possible to the area each member lives in. Some parts of the world have certain materials that are cheaper, but in other areas those same materials are really expensive, or unavailable.

The top thread in each forum asks that people provide basic information that, when given, saves John or me an hour or two PER DAY having to type each and every question again and again - this alone can eat up around HALF the time we have to give.

That means that if we take the time to repeat ourselves over and over, we don't have time for someone else's questions, so less people get helped. In your case, I'm spending an extra 10 minutes or more explaining things you would have KNOWN had you followed the guidelines. That may mean I have to miss another member's question until tomorrow. If that member was YOU, and you needed to know something BEFORE the carpenter or electrician arrived, would YOU be happy?

As to your question -

What type of noise are you concerned with - just in-room computer noise, or will other musicians (or speakers) be playing while the recording is being done?

Also

Which package are you considering, or is that part of your question?

I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot - I already KNEW why YOU were frustrated because I've been there. Hopefully now YOU know part of what causes ME to be frustrated, and we can get on with figuring out a workable solution for you... Steve

Thanks for the reply, I've been outta town for a week. Let me break it down: I'm thinkin about getting an Isopac G. Here is my situation, I will be recording in my bedroom and my main focus is to be able to record CLEAN vocals that I can in turn take to the studio for mixing. My concerns are mostly ambient noises (A/C, people walking upstairs, etc.) but if I can find something that REALLY isolates the sound so that it gives the effect of a booth/control separation that would be great. My budget is very low. I'm doing everything myself and dont make enough money to go huge. Also, I rent and I'm not good with constructing ANYTHING, lol.

Thanks again.

Got about 2 minutes til I have to leave for work, but looking at their specs (no sound isolation numbers I found) I saw that they're made of 1/4" plexiglas - even if the entire assembly was airtight, this would give you about STC 27 at best, with low frequency stuff only being cut down by around 10 dB - pretty pathetic for isolation.

For an example, if your house has hollow core doors (most do) for the interior doors, put a boom box on one side, turn it up enough to mask the outside noise, then close the door while standing on the other side. That's about STC 27, only the Isopac thing doesn't enclose everything very well as far as I can see.

I'll try to find out more when I have a bit more time... Steve
