thinking about the acoustic treatment for my studio:
I have some doubts about the material. Steve advice me to put 40 kg/m3 rockwool in front of the acoustic wall and 70 kg/m3 behind. Both 40 mm layers togheter. In Spain wood is more expensive than steel frames, and the person who is installing the sheetrock told me about making this ac. units whit 90 mm steel framing for 80 mm of rockwool. There is no 80 mm steel framing...
If this steel framing is correctly atached there will be no problems, will not? Then, can I staple the cloth cover to the steel framing??
IF you size steel frames so the rockwool is a very snug fit, the rockwool will damp any vibration that might make the steel "ring" - so that's not a problem.
However, what kind of staples do you have that you can drive through steel? Only thing like that I'm aware of is a Ramset gun; it's a powder-actuated driver(actually uses blank pistol shells) that literally drives short, heavy duty "nails" through concrete or steel. However, that would rip the cloth beyond recognition, so not a good plan...
Maybe use Velchro, if it's available in your area -
