Help with acoustic treatment in basement studio

Post by sarath »

Hi!

Would someone help me out with figuring out the acoustic treatment for my "under construction" basement studio?

I´ll post some pictures below which describes the studio construction and level design.

Please forgive me for misspelling Insulation (I wrote Isolation, like in norwegian).

Here we go!

Here´s the recording room as seen from above:

Here´s also the recordingroom as seen from the side

Are you going to have 2 control rooms?

If not what about using that space as well?

And yes we need drawings with measurements in order to help you better

if you mean the empty space on the illiustration called "former 2nd control room", the space has been taken away from me by the landlord, unfortionately.

With that small a dimensions, you'll be better off rotating things 90 degrees so your speakers fire down the LONG dimension of the room; more like this

Check the diagram at the bottom of the page... Steve

I´ll try to do some sketches. actually a design like that would be better in almost every way...

If i place the workstation 167cm out from the former left hand wall, I got a clear view out in the recordingroom on my right hand side... what should I do with all the empty space behind the workstation? what should i do with the roofing? some kind of hanging absorbers in an inverted staircase shape? I´ve been thinking about three individual hanging units in three individual positions... are my ideas any good?

Which part of the workstation? The important parts are your head and speakers. A head position of 38-39% of total room dimension is one good starting point.

You can find more about this here

Hi again, and sorry for my previous "post and run´s"...

I´ve been thinking about the tip I got about moving the workstation from the longest wall, beneath the glass window, and over to the short wall with the window on my right side...

The room is about 20´ x 10´ and the window is about 2,9´up on the longest wall.
Window 9´whide and 2.4´high

What should i do with the acoustic treatment in this room? is symmetry a problem for side absorbers when the window is placed on the right?

i was also thinking about placing the workstation about 4.5´away from the shortest wall, with the window directly on the right side... my question is what to do with the celing above the workstation and all the way back to the end wall. any pointers?
