What would be good surround/5.1 monitor system?

This question doen't applies to studio monitoring but for DVD playback on a hi- fi custommer system.

My point is to built proven kits (so I could build the speakers enclosures) with matched components, i.e xovers/woofer/tweeter set, time aligned, baffle step decomp, all dressed!.

I want a two way system with 6 inches as woofer/mid and an affordable tweeter(Iquphon, scan speak, etc), plus a separate sub with it's own amplifier and all what's needed to redirect any bass to the "satelliltes"

Still, I want audiophile speakers. I want to enjoy listening CD, so musical content would be more important than just listening surround or 5.1 stuff with medium quality.

The custom built system should not get over $CAN 1500. (US $1200) for the sub, center, left/right, rear left/right.

The box sizes for the 6 inches/tweet should not get over 0,5 cubic foot, the sub, I don't care!, cause I could even built it into a basstrap in the corner! I want to put my two way speakers on either stands or anchored to the wall/ceiling.
My listening room is about 16X18 feet and the height is cathedral stuff (from 9 feet X 11 at the top middle). All of this is in a non treated living room. I want to make some accoustic treatement after then... (next step)

Genelec wins my choice. Blue Skys are cool. Adams would be killer.

Agreed. Genelec's or Adam's with a Martin controller. Blue Sky at the very least.

Thanks for your replies all of you. But I think you've misread my post. I has to be "kits" to be builted.

I don't want to pay premium prizes an I know that there are some kits liying somewere that are just as good as pro speakers sold anywhere.

I live in Canada(Quebec) so there are some nice kits to be built for about half the price you would pay in a store(you have to built speaker cabinets, and I can do it with no problems!), and those kits have a matched passive Xover for the components and are integrated for 5.1 sound. I know Adams, Genelec, ATC, etc!, but hey I wanna kits!

In the price range that I told in the first post should be about that.

Try a google search for 'exodus lcr' - this is the speaker i play on making for my home theater. Very good reviews and straightforward construction. They have smaller versions for surrounds.

Seems quite a nice system. It is a little bigger in box size than I tought for the center channel but for L&R, the footprint is quite ok.

I went at Solen (Quebec) and they suggested me some Ivy woofers(5.5 inches woofers) that seem well builted and robust, quite flat for this size-price, then seas tweeters(don't remember the models).

Ad I wanted a really good sub: Aurasound NS18-992-4A in a 4.7 cubic Feet, ported with 4 ducts to get a STRONG 20Hz(yet flat!).

My speakers would be column type because bookshelves take the same footprint, so why not get low extension!

I want to built the speaker enclosures(I've done many 30 years ago).

They provide passive x-overs for the speakers kits and a 1000watts class -G power-amp for the sub with variable el.xover and parametric EQ+phase adjustments, etc.

I guess I will save a good amount this way.

Any suggestions are welcome.
