I have a 20x20 climate control storage space in orlando, florida that I want to convert into a project studio. I will be recording, mixing and mastreing everything there. on one side ther is a door and a pull up overhang door. the ceiling starts about 15ft and slants up to about 20ft from the door side to the right. I want to build a vocal booth which will also be used to record drums. the ceiling has insulation and a nice cloth like covering already there. I only plan on leaving everything outside the booth open to this ceiling. As stated above this is a climate control area but I will also be installing to ceiling fans in this area also. Need to know if this is a good plan accoustically? what is the reccomended size for a drum and vocal room? Is leaving the rest of the area open is a good idea? lastly , any ideas welcome as far as where to put the vocal booth etc. Trying to keep this down to two rooms. Thanks in advance. here is a diagram. could not get to post will try again later.

Hi Alan - this is a 20 ft x 20 ft square building with two doors and a window in the bottom wall?? and the ceiling at this wall is 15 ft and the top wall (as per your plan) is at 20 ft height?? Correct?
what is the insulation on the ceiling? is it fibreglass, rockwool or Polystyrene?? I would imagine this roomk is pretty live sounding now??

actually I remeamured and the ceiling from the door side starts at 10 1/2 and raises to 12 1/2. yes the the room is pretty live at the moment. In the booth planing on putting hardwood flooring and if I need to tone down for vocals will put carpet in while tracking. To answer your second question the building has 1 door and 1 roll up garage type door a few feet from ea other on the same side. The only window will be from the booth to control room. I dont know what type of ceiling covering leatherish looking material.

OK - I'm assuming it's still 20ft x 20ft??
Check out this thread - http://johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=166 your drawing doesn't give the right perspective/proportion of what can be done in a 20 x 20- space.
