Speakers....speakers... which ones for my studio?

Post by Pennywizz6 »

Hello,

Ive got built in 1/4 and XLR wallplates in the walls of my studio. Ive got several sections around the room, which lead to my main console for recording, mixing ect. From there ive got 4 1/4 outs of my amp to power 2 stereo speakers. The room is decent size, 150 inches by about 250, standard sheetrock, nothing special. Ive got 5 people in the band who will be using the studio, which will all be run through to these PA speakers. Guitar/bass/keyboard/vocals will all be needed to be in the PA line. I dont know exacly how big of speakers i will need, of course, young teens like myself need ear blowing loudness 8) . I cant afford anything fancy, but a couple of PA cabs or something. I selected a few that look well and I will take your opinions on what ones look best suited for my needs.

http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4027031 very cheap, pretty powerful, not too sure of the jensen name, but the look nice, with great numbers. I think two of these on each side of my room will be enough.

http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3724383 A little small, and dont know if they could supply enough power, but they would be ultra clear, and great name! I could afford 2 pairs, which would be 4 of them around the room. Because of the small drivers i might just get one pair, and a 12 inch woofer or something.

http://store.steelsound.com/Detail.bok?no=342 last is a pair of these, large, powerful woofers, titanium tweeter, the sound quite nice for the price and would have all the ability to provide the dynamics i crave.

Please tell me your opinions of each and what ones you think would be best, it's too much of a toss up for me, i wouldnt know what id be getting into and dont know exactly what id need to put out the power.

Thanks,

Phil

The first two would be a total JOKE to try and run a full band through - when you include bass, you want 15" drivers and at least 200 watts power handling. The last one might do it for a while, but if you crank cheap speakers, you get the chance to buy ANOTHER set.

What's your MAXIMUM budget for this? (Keep in mind that buying cheap almost ALWAYS means buying OVER) Steve
