What kind of floor?

Alrighty, construction is almost complete on my project studio! The dimensions are 14' x 10' with 8' ceilings as seen in the picture. The plaform on the right is semi-floated. I didn't really want to float a platform, but there were pipes sticking out of the floor slightly due to a bathroom being there before I took it out. I figured I should leave them in there in case a future owner wants the bathroom back in.

Anyway, I've got a wood floor installed on the lower half of the room. I want ot use the room as a rehearsal space for my band, as well as a place to record & mix demos, etc. Unfortunatley, all I've got is the one room, so it has to be multi-purpose. The mixing position will be at the left side of the room as shown in the pic. (on the 'floated' platform).

My question is what kind of flooring would you suggest to put on top of the platform? As I mentioned, I've already got hardwood on the 'lower' half of the room (the right side). I was thinking of some of that really short industrial carpet, but I'd love to hear your opinions.

Sure, Steve.

It's 2x3 construction 'floated' on auralex u-boats with 2 layers of OSB on top. The cavities are filled with sand. I didn't want to go through the hassle of building a true floating floor with concrete, etc, and I know it is difficult to get the resonance of a wood floor below 20Hz, so I figured a 'dead' floor would be the next best thing.

If that side's going to be your mix area I'd try to keep the floor more live (carpet takes out too many mids/high mids for a balanced sound) and do a cloud over it, along with corner absorbers (3-4 inch rockwool or 703) and first reflection points (at least 2" here) on the sidewalls; probably 2-3 portable absorbers in addition, to be moved around as needed depending on what's happening at the time...
