Can you tape and mud MDF?

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Can you tape and mud MDF?

Post by chunger »

Hello,

Quick question. I was wondering if it's possible to tape an MDF wall panel that abutts a drywall wall in the same manner I tape drywall. . . with normal drywall compound/paper tape/drywall corners.

Never tried it, especially in a containment situation; I think what I'd do is take some scraps of each, build a test corner section using drywall mud for one and Fixall (the green box) for the other, set them both under a (not too close) infrared heat lamp for several days (keep an eye out for the first few hours, then once a day) until they are VERY dry, then see which one breaks easier - the other one's the WINNER...
