Spring-loaded ceiling hangers, Boston?

My contractor got a quote on 80 hooks and associated hardware, to suspend a 25x28 ceiling. The materials alone came to $5400, which is more than I want to pay.

Are there cheaper sources for these? If not, I'll probably come begging for advice on other ways to put up a "soundproof" ceiling in new construction. The studs for the walls are up, and I'm using double wall, staggered studs and several layers of wallboard; the ceiling and HVAC vents are the last puzzle. Thanks for any pointers.

Mason Industries has a simple but effective design. The WHR sereies [different loads] cost me about $4.00 each.

Contact them to find a distributor in Boston. I was able to get them here in St Louis through an A/C supplier.

I don't know the cost of these things at all, so I don't know if your $5400 is good or bad. However, if I'm hanging a ceiling above my head, i'm certainly not going to go cheap on the hangers. I'm not real fond of a few thousand pounds of construction moving towards my head at a rapid rate.

Make sure you get the right stuff, and consider Steve's triangle of good, fast, and cheap before you balk at something because of cost.

RSIC clips can be had for around $5.00 each - requiring one every 16" and also utilizing channel at additional cost. Even so, those materials would be WAY less than $5400.

The manufacturer has clear requirements for installation and loads. I don't think they would risk liability to their company by offering inaccurrate information. I think your response could be considered an uneducated one.

My reply was not manufacturer specific, I was simply reminding the Guest that he/she needed to really make sure that whatever method they chose, that it was safe, reliable, and properly planned. And also that sometimes safe is expensive when it comes to things that hang.

I do believe also that my first sentence states my uneducated nature about the cost of ceiling hangers.
