Control room re-configure

Post by motown59 »

I'm about to install laminate flooring(Kronoswiss 8mm), build a new desk and paint the control room plus more traps in the ongoing studio project.
The monitoring setup right now:
The room is 220" long. 143" wide at the front wall and 158" at the back wall. 9' ceilings. Right now I have free standing monitors with the center of the woofers 17" from the front wall(behind the monitors) and 28" from the side walls. My head is 83" from the front wall and 71" from each woofer. The center of each woofer is 48" from the floor and 60" from the ceiling.
Ideas on placement when I put things back? I have 4 realtraps at the front wall, Auralex at first reflection points side wall. I'll post a pic when I can
thanks.

Have you considered building some free-standing soffits as part of the re-do? I think you'd like the results a LOT... Steve

I did a search on these. Only came up with one thread that looked topical. Seems like you build heavy stands and little enclosure boxes for the speaks. What would that do over free standing stands and short of full soffit mounting the speaks? I thought the idea was to keep the omni directional bass requencies from bouncing around the front wall area. It would seem a full wall would be needed... My monitors are Event 20/20 bas active, soon to be Precision 8s. Here's a pic of the room in temporary condidtion. Right now there's Auralex all over and Realtraps are just leaning against the wall. It's a box but my plan was to corner mount the realtraps and maybe build a couple more so every wall junction had a trap across. Also pic of the new window just dropped in the overdub room. It's not bad. A special order from Home depot. It's a sound control option of two different thicknesses of glass on a heavier vinyl frame. ..about a $360 window. I also added an inch of material to the outside wall...doors next.
thanks & happy new year!!!

I forgot to ask about the height of the desk and rack stuff on top being a reflection issue. you can see the few pieces of gear above the desk slightly in the way of the monitors. I'm tall so it doesn't get in the way of my view of the monitors in any way. I wanted my next desk to be a bit lower to minimize this.
