hey all ,
i recently moved in to a new apartment and i am trying to do some minor recording more mixing than anything.
my question is once i wrap up some 2 x 4 panels with some cloth, is it neccessary to mount the panels to the wall for either high reflections or lows.
my idea is to just be able to move the panels around as i need them in different spots for different sounds.
so what i wanted to do is for the highs is place the panels on boxes of similar heights at a slight angle out from top to bottom. i was wondering if this would add some low mid absorbtion as well as the high absorbtion. especially with an angle giving a variable depth, or does this just defeat the absorbtion of the highs
and for the lows, kind of like the above idea, i was wondering if i just had some loose pieces of 705 foiled wrapped, just leaning up against the walls. bassically covering the corners of the floor and the wall. is there value here and would putting them at different angles change the freq response of the absorbtion.
my main concern is having to mount the bass traps to make them work effectively, again i am in a apartment so i cant go mounting 1x1 to the wall, so if what i have proposed does not work, please let me know some other solutions that may be worthy and effective
thanks,
figurehead

Re: rigid fiberglass
Figs,
Yeah, you can lean panels against the walls. Mostly they don't have to be mounted, though to absorb first reflections they do need to be in specific places.
