How do you test your room?

Post by cordura21 »

Do you just put a mic (like an ECM8000) where you mix and shoot pink noise thru the speakers, then watch the eq curve on a plugin?
Is this a good enough method, at least for starting?
Please sorry if it's already been answered, I searched for it. If so please point me to a link.

Thanks in advance, Andrés

Andrés,

Are you prepared to purchase measurement hardware or software?
What exactly are you trying to quantify? Is there a specific audible problem you are trying to pinpoint?
What kind of resolution is available to you on your EQ curve plugin?

Thanks for the links, Ethan. I'm gonna read them.

Hey Jeff. No i'm not prepared to buy measurement hardware. What I have is a pair of ECM8000 and the Waves package that includes the PAZ Analizer. (I also have a RS sound level meter, but don't kick me :) )

I just want to get an overview of the room, just to know it. I'm attaching a picture from the front and the back. It's a pretty strange room since it's 3 meters wide and like 8 deep. Also at the back, the ceiling is like 5 meters high, and at the fron is not a plain ceiling but divided in 2 as you can see. Sorry, I don't know how to describe it in english.

Cheers, Andrés

No worries on the RS SLM: We have two of them here and I've got one at home. They come in handy from time to time... :D

I am not familiar with the Waves PAZ. Is there a link you can give me to read about it?

Are you planning on treating the room as well?

Regardless, I can help you with a measurement process that won't involve the purchase of any hardware or software on your end. If you're interested, PM me.
