Firstly I'd like to say thanks to all the people who have asked questions and those that have answered then...They've been of great help...
At present my self and a partner are in planning/design stages of building a studio. We have rough ideas about the stuctural aspect of the building, but as yet we haven't gone to an architect for professional drawings. Before we do this we want to know exactally what we want.
This brings me to my question. We were wondering if any one had any tips. For things that you've done thats worked really well, things you've seen done that works really well or things that haven't gone so well. Since we plan on purchasing a block of land and building from scratch we want to get it right first time. (It's not that easy to decide that that load bearing wall dosen't really fit in that stop well or there just arn't quite enough power points once constrcution is finished)
Thanks for any help or advice any one can give.
Matthew

Wow Mathew
how long is a piece of string?? - it seems like a simple question but there are so many aspects I wouldn't know where to start.
1 - make sure you have a proper ceiling height 12 ft+
2 - Try and avoid support posts everywhere.
3 - Don't build next to a railway line etc.
4 - A good studio with associated bathroom etc. would take around 600 sq ft.
cheers

I'd consider that a good TRACKING room, but I've waited so long for a serious space of my own that I'm GREEDY -
It would help if we knew more about what you intend to do with your studio, how many bodies will be involved, how much DIY you're into (including expertise), and what your BUDGET looks like.
Also, when you think you've settled on a particular piece of property, there will be questions regarding zoning, noise studies (so you know how well you need to build), etc... Steve

Basically I want a professional recording studio....BUDGET isn't a major problem cause I'll just delay construction till I have the money.
Purely and Simply I want it done properly first time....I don't want to move in and 6months down the track find out I want more room to for musicians or I didn't get enough leads through the walls....
I'm happy to wait like two years if I have to budget wise... But i want a professional studio.
Basically if you were in a band (on the top 50 list) what do you want in a recording studio, but I'm going to make it so it's available to new bands starting up...
Size wise i'm looking at Two 6m^2 live studio areas and 6 Iso booths - 4 off one Live area and two off the other... You can try and change my mind about this but it would be a waste of your time. The two control rooms are back to back. I was thinking of having windows between the two simply for asthetic value and have a big thick curtain to pull over the back wall of the control rooms.
Hope this gives a little more detail..
Thanks for the ideas so far... As obvious as they were i hadn't thought of them...
Thanks
Matthew

OK Mathew - here's a plan I did last year for that type of studio. It was for Frederic at HR. Unfortunately his building title fell over.
