Anybody on here used QSC K10s or Yamaha DXR10s for lower volume monitors in a jam room?
I am treating my garage live band room (http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewt ... =2&t=22179).
The PA speakers will be used for vocals only at this point, both during rehearsal/practice and gigs.
(I use Tech21 pedals and may eventually run them through the PA, but currently use dedicated FRFR speakers.)
The monitors will be used for:
- listening to GarageBand recordings of our classic rock flavored band.
- listening to iTunes off my laptop, sometimes for jamming with on electric guitar.
I have the budget to buy either: a) mediocre monitors and mediocre PA speakers -or- b) better PA speakers.
I understand that monitors and PA speakers are apples and Tbone steaks, but has anybody used a quality PA for lower volume monitoring (understanding that GarageBand recordings of our band will not sound like Kings of Leon recorded at Blackbird https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdF41Ne2cnQ).
Thanks!

I have a mixed Live and Recording career. I have often heard speakers Live which sounded so good that I reckoned they would make great monitors.
I have been especially impressed by Mackie and Nexo. Once, on location I used Bose 802 to mix some live to 2 track in a rehearsal space. The mixes translated really well.

I'd suspect a box like this one would work well as a studio monitor:
