That said, if it's not terribly difficult to get a decent mixing room and it can align with my budget and other goals I'm all for it! I do agree that it can double as a lounge. How should I change the layout or design to accomplish this?
As I wrote above, you want symmetry, your speakers firing down the long length of your room, your entire rear wall needs to be treatment, and IF you have a door at the front of your room, it needs to be dead center to your room.
Yea, this is the part that stumps me. I think I'm generally a pretty sharp guy until I run into your explanations of how to do the math on the forum then my head explodes. I honestly don't know what I'm doing here...

Sounds like a properly sized mini split HVAC will work well as long as we're able to properly address fresh air as well. More math right!?
This is a self help forum which means it's here for you to read and try your best to learn. If you can't find answers, there are a handful of regular contributing members that can answer your questions. I've done my best since I've joined here to answer questions and even created an MSM calculator and HVAC static pressure calculator that are both stickies at the top of the design forum. There are also a handful of threads where either Stuart or myself have gone into great detail about HVAC calculations. I hope you can find those and gain some knowledge..

My best suggestion is to get on SketchUp Make and start laying things out according to what we've recommended so far. Post your layouts and we will continue to give suggestions. Study hard and you'll eventually start tackling your HVAC needs. From there, you can also post your Sketchup pictures for that and your calculations. We'll get you sorted out, don't worry. Just don't give up and keep studying. I'd recommend using Google Drive and save pictures, copy/paste text into notes, and save anything else you think will help you. It's also good to keep track of materials and companies local to you where you can get your supplies. That way when it comes time to find things like door hinges, you know where to find them!

That's the plan! I know someone that owns an HVAC company and lives nearby that can possibly help with the calculations for that part.

I have friends that own HVAC companies too and they were in way over their heads with any of my calculations. Literally, they just kept telling me "just put a bathroom fan in and you'll be good", "you're over thinking this", "oh, I don't know how to calculate that", "no one ever calculates that, just use some 8" duct and you'll be fine", etc. etc.
